Bolt runs 46.71 in 400m season debut at Camperdown Classic

Reigning Olympic 100m and 200m champion Usain Bolt ran 46.71 seconds in the 400m in his 2013 season debut at the Camperdown Classic held at the National Stadium in Kingston today.  Bolt, who ran an even race, took the lead at the 300m mark and then cruise down the homestretch while looking around as he approached the finish line. Bolt has a personal best 45.28 seconds in the 400m which he established back in 2007. Perhaps the most exciting of the four 400m men’s opens races was  the third section in which Warren Weir won event in a personal best time of 46.23 seconds ahead of Racers Track Club teammates and training partners Edino Steele (46.64) and Olympic 200m silver medallist, Yohan Blake who was third in 46.77. Blake ran an easy race, taking the lead at the 150m mark and held the lead until the 300m mark when Weir challenged and took the lead and won going away from Blake and Steele. “I am happy with my performance, I am glad to be back at the Camperdown Classic and to set a personal best time in the 400m (46.23). This (performance) shows that I am way ahead this year that I was at this time last year,” said Weir. Weir continued, “last year was not a fluke, I am here to stay. I’ll be in Moscow this year and I will be around the next year and the next year.” Emphasis should not be placed on the times nor the order of finished, as the Camperdown Classic can be considered a training exercise for the athletes from Racers Track Club.  Case in point, at the 2012 Camperdown Classic, Yohan Blake finished 2^nd overall in the 400m in a time of 46.49 seconds, and was undefeated in the 100m and 200m heading into the London Olympics.    http://www.camperdownclassic.com/LiveStreamer.aspx     Like us on  Facebook Follow us on Twitter
