Allyson Felix is finally Golden in the 200m (21.88)

American sprinter Allyson Felix won the women’s 200m Olympic title in Londontoday in a brisk 21.88 seconds. Felix who was 2^nd in the 200m at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics finally earned the gold medal. Felix ran a good curve was able to pull away from the field to finish ahead of Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (22.09) and teammate Carmelita Jeter (22.14) with Campbell-Brown (22.38) in 4^th.  Heading into the race, Felix was the clear favorite as she was the only woman to go sub-22 seconds in the 200m this season. Felix ran a world leading 21.69 seconds at the USA Trials in late June. Felix victory today was well-orchestrated by her coaching staff as this season she opted to pursue the 100/200 double rather than the 200/400. This plan worked to perfection as Felix was able to improve on her personal best in the 100m (10.92) and was able to use that speed along with her 400m stamina to improve on her personal best in the 200m (21.69).  The plan paid dividend as Felix was able to capture the ultimate prize, which is an individual Olympic gold medal in the 200m.
