The Bahamas BTC/Scotia Bank Olympic Trials – Preview

The Bahamas BTC/Scotia Bank Olympic Trials schedule for June 22-23 in Nassau, will offer some exciting match-ups as the top three finishers from each event will book their tickets to London, provided that they meet the qualifying A or B standards. The marquee events include the men’s 400m, the women’s 100m and the women’s 200m. The men’s 400m will feature defending national champion Demetrius Pinder, Chris “Fireman” Brown, Ramon Miller and Avard Moncur.  Michael Mathieu who is the fastest Bahamian over the 400m this season, with a time of 45.06 seconds will not contest the 400m and is scheduled to contest only the 200m. Pinder and Brown outdoor season can be described as consistent as both men failed to go sub-45, but consistently ran in the low 45’s and have met the qualifying standards. Mathieu, the new 200m national record-holder with a lifetime and season best 20.16 seconds will match strides with Shavez Hart (20.24), Ramon Miller (20.50) and Jamial Rolle (20.68) in the men’s 200m. The women’s 100m will be contested by Sheniqua “Q” Ferguson, Anthonique Strachan, and Chandra Sturrup. Q has the fastest time of 11.07 seconds and should battle her training partner Strachan (11.22) for the top spot. Both women will also do battle in the 200m. The men’s 100m will feature the return of Derrick Atkins who recently ran a season best of 10.08 seconds. Atkins will be pushed by Jamial Rolle (10.25), Trevorvano Mackey (10.25) and Warren Fraser (10.27), who are all in pursuit of the qualifying B standard of 10.24 seconds. The University of  Georgia -bound Shaunae Miller will compete in the women's 400m. Miller has a season best 51.25 seconds in the 400m. The men’s high jump will feature Trevor Barry, Ryan Ingraham and Donald Thomas. Barry has a season best 2.32m that meets the A standard of 2.31m, while Ingraham has a season best 2.28m that equal the B standard.
