Roshawn Clarke and Kerrica Hill golden at the 2024 Camperdown Classic

The nineteenth edition of the Camperdown Classic was held at the National Stadium, Kingston, Jamaica, on February 10, 2024. Like so many track and field events, the Camperdown Classic is a staple on the annual track and field Calendar which has contributed greatly in providing opportunities, by unearthing and promoting many talents in the local high school system. Roshawn Clarke, Kerrica Hill both posted impressive performances in the 400m races while high school athletes geared-up for the Boys and Girls Championship scheduled for March 19- 23, 2024.

Clarke best Watson in Men’s Senior Invitational 400m

World Under 20 400m Hurdles World Record Holder, Roshawn Clarke of Swept Track Club, surprised the 400m World Champion, Antonio Watson, to win the men’s senior invitational 400m timed final, posting a Season Best of 46.05. Watson of Racers Track posted a Season Best of 46.10 for second and Terry Richards of Titan International Track Club, posted a Season Best of 46.97 for third. The field was rounded-out by Malik Kymani James-King of Titans International Track Club in a Season Best of 47.34, Oblique Seville of Racers Track Club in a Personal Best of 47.44, Jeremy Bembridge of Racers Track Club in a Season Best of 47.65. Darion Casine Skerritt of Titans International Track Club in a Personal Best of 48.43 and Craig Prendergast of Calabar High School in a Personal Best of 48.49.

Kerrica sets personal best in Women’s 400m

Kerrica Hill of Elite Performance Track Club Jamaica won the women’s senior invitational 400m final in a Personal Best of 56.26, while Alliea Whitter of Ferncourt High School was second in 59.36 and Serena Richard was third in a Season Best of 59.84. The field was rounded-out by Shermalee Freeman of Mico University College in a Season Best of 59.94, Marryann Ru Ya Ali of Racers Track Club in a Personal Best of 1:00.03, and Hannah Bell of Racers Track Club in a Personal Best of 1:04.38. The field was rounded-out by Tijeana Bogle of Mico University did not start.

Class 4 Girl’s High Jump Final

Sanique Watt of Immaculate Conception High School won gold in the class 4 girl’s high jump with a Personal Best of 1.60m, while Brianna Tianna Stewart of St. Jago High School won silver with a similar Personal Best of 1.60m and Tshani Armstrong of St. Catherine High won bronze with a Personal Best of 1.55m. The top ten jumpers were rounded-out by Moeasha McLaren of Hydel High with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Dajanay Willis of Hydel High with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Azaria Harris of the Convent of Mercy Alpha with a Personal Best of 1.45m, Brianna Abigail Ashman of Immaculate Conception High School with a Personal Best of 1,45m, Isabella A. Bennet of St. Andrew High with a Personal Best of 1.40m, Deandra Fitten of St. Jago High School with 1.40m and Daina Black of Hydel High School with a Personal Best of 1.35m.

Class 3 Girl’s High Jump Final

Zavien Bernard of Hydel High School won the class 3 girl’s high jump, clearing a Personal Best of 1.78m, while Gabrilla Treasure of St. Catherine High School was second with a Personal Best of 1.65m and Grace-Ann Bailey of Immaculate Conception High was third with a Personal Best of 1.60m. The field was rounded-out by Jada Irons with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Stefvanco Henry of Campion College with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Shantay Morris of Manchester High School with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Alexia Nahalia Shanice Williams of St. Jago High School with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Yoanna Luke of Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy with a Personal Best of 1.50m, Delora Johnson (unattached) with a Personal Best of 1.50 and Nastacia Collins of Vere Technical High School with a Personal Best of 1.45m.

Class 3 Boy’s High Jump Final

Patrick Brown of St. Jago High School won the boy’s class 3 high jump with a Personal Best of 1.90m, while Kijuan Williams of Calabar was second with a similar Personal Best of 1.90m and Kabiki Thomas of Wolmer’s Boys was third with 1.85m. The field was rounded-out by Zackery Nisbett of Manchester High School with a Personal Best of 1.85m, Richard Green of Calabar High School with a Personal Best of 1.75m, Abraham McGreggor of Campion College with a Personal Best of 1.70m, Ethan James of Wolmer’s Boys with a Personal Best of 1.65m and Dontae Redwood of St. Jago High with a Personal Best of 1.60m.

Class 2 Girl’s High Jump

Sabrina Atkinson of Hydel High School won the class 2 girl’s high jump, clearing 1.70m (PB), while Tashianna Legister of Excelsior High School was second in a Personal Best of 1.65m and Jhameka Brown of Manchester High School was third in a similar Personal Best of 1.65m. The field was rounded-out by Shauntai Pryce of Excelsior High School with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Akira D. Graham of St. Andrew High School with a Personal Best of 1.55m, Camelia Taylor with a Personal Best of 1.50m, Shanoya Scott with a Personal Best of 1,50m, Amelia Montaque of Vere Technical High School with a Personal Best of 1.50m, Alexia Haffenden of St. Jago High School with a Personal best of 1.50m, Aaliyah Mullings of Hydel High with a Season Best of 1.50, Selena Morrison and Chanel Byfield of the Queen’s School with 1,45m (PB), and 1.40m, respectively.

The field was rounded-out by Mireya Simpson of Immaculate Conception High School with a Personal Best of 1.60m and Ziasia Oakley of Excelsior with 1.50m.

Maurace Johnson of St. Jago High won the class 1 boy’s high jump with 1.90m, while Jevontae Grant of Calabar High and David Douglas of Wolmer’s Boys were second and third, respectively, with a similar 1.90m. Class 1 Women’s Triple Jump Open

Sabrina Atkinson of Hydel School won the class 1 women’s triple jump open, cutting the sands in a Personal Best of 12.29m (+0.9), while Tiana South of St. Jago High School was second with a Personal Best of 11.25m (+0.7) and Shauntai Pryce of Excelsior High was third with 11.23m (+0.6). The field was rounded-out by Tashianna Legister of Excelsior High with 11.09m (-0.9), Davine Dickenson of Immaculate Conception High with a Personal Best of 10.98m (-1.3), Gerlin Barnes of the Queen’s School with a Personal Best of 10.68m (-1.1) and Alexia Nahalia Shanice Williams of St. Jago High with a Personal Best of 10.62 (+0.3).

Class 1 Men’s Triple Jump Open

Kaleel Samuels of Calabar won the class 1 boy’s triple jump with a wind-aided 13.54 (+3.1), while Kijaun Williams, also of Calabar High was second with a wind-aided 13.28 (+5.2).

Class 3 Girl’s 800m Timed Final

Alikay Reynolds of Alphansus Davis High School won the class 3 girl’s 800m timed final in a Personal Best of 2:14.48, while her team-mate Tabbrel Williams was second in a Personal Best of 2:15.66 and Jada Fletcher of St. Jago High School was third in a Personal Best of 2:21.76. The top eight runners were rounded-out by Vennesha Pommells of Manchester High School in 2:24.45, Sequoia Mills of Vere Technical High School in a Personal Best of 2:25.52, Tashona Brown of Alphansus Davis High School in a Personal Best of 2:25.82, Cecilia Moses of St. Catherine High in a Personal Best of 2:25.87 and Keyah Kira Anderson of the Queen’s School in a Personal 2:30.75.

Class 3 Boy’s 800m Timed Final

Camron Williams of Jamaica College won the class 3 boy’s timed final in a Personal Best of 2:04.54, while Obrian Clarke of Calabar High School was second in a Personal Best of 2:05.81 and Luke Plummer (unattached), was third in a Personal Best of 2:06.78. The field was rounded-out by Leon Thomas of Calabar in a Personal Best of 2:12.09, Khieme Campbell of St. Jago High School in a Personal Best of 2:13.28, Phillip Palmer of St. Jago High School in a Personal Best of 2:14.74, Malric Thomas of Calabar in 2:14.77 and Kevon James Palmer of Manchester High School in a Personal Best of 2:14.81.

Class 2 Girl’s 800m Timed Final

Jenice Dunkley of Hydel High School won the class 2 girl’s 800m in a Personal Best of 2:17.30, while Kededra Coombs of St. Jago High School was second in a Season Best of 2:18.21 and Sashashuana Hemmings of Hydel High School was third in 2:20.59. Samuel Creary of Jamaica College won the class 1 boy’s 800 in a Personal Best of 1:55.93, while Alejandro Palmer of Calabar High School was second in a Personal Best of 1:57.56 and Shemar Green of Jamaica College was third in a Personal Best of 1:58.45. The field was rounded-out by Yohance Carty of Jamaica College in a Personal Best of 2:01.07, Rushanne Naris James of Clarendon College in a Personal Best of 2:03.47, Raheem Palmer of Alphansus Davis High School in 2:03.53, Christopher Anderson of Kingston College in a Personal Best of 2:03.60 and Lorek Givans of Belair High School in a Personal Best of 2:04.25.

Class 1 Girl’s 800m Timed Final

Kitania Headley of St. Catherine High School won the class 1 girl’s 800m in a Season Best of 2:12.26, Allecia Johnson of Alphansus Davis High school was second in a Personal Best of 2:16.62 and La Tanya Rosanna Johnson was third in a Season Best of 2:18.24. The field was rounded-out by Misha-Jade Samuels of St. Jago High School in a Season Best of 2:25.83, Shaneequa Anderson of Excelsior High School in 2:26.78, Sariah Bedward of Excelsior High School in a Personal Best of 2:28.05, Fedrian Harris  of Ferncourt High School in a Personal Best of 2:28.84 and Jeneail Henry of Wolmer’s Girls in a Personal Best of 2:33.19.

Keandro Gordon of Excelsior High School won the class 1 boy’s 800m in 1:55.34, while Nellie Ambriton of Jamaica College was second in 1:56.22 and Tyrone Lawson of Jamaica College was third in a Personal Best of 1:56.29. The field was rounded-out by Rasheed Pryce of Jamaica College in a Personal Best of 1:56.35, Adriano Brown of Calabar High School in a Personal Best of 1:56.39, Waval Davis of Foga Road High School in a Personal Best of 1: 56.65, Ricardo Carr of Excelsior High in a Personal Best `of 1:59.50 and Justin Webb of Calabar High in 1:59.58.

Class 4 Girl’s 100m Timed Final

Rihanna Scott of Ferncourt High won the class 4 girl’s 100m timed final in 12.51, while Arrian Nelson of Hydel High School was second in a Personal Best of 12.81 and Mick-Kayla Zerona Gardener of Wolmer’s Girls was third in 12.90. The field was rounded-out by Tyecia McDonald of Hydel High in 12.92, London Bell of Hydel High in 12.97, Jamilia Roxanna Alves of St. Jago High in 13.20, Abigail Brown of Immaculate Conception High in a Personal best of 13.26 and Jadeanne Patterson of Alphansus Davis High School in a Personal Best of 13.19.

Class 3 Girl’s 100m Timed Final

Natrece East of Wolmer’s Girls won the class 3 girl’s 100m timed final in a Season Best of 11.72, while Adora Campbell of St. Jago High was second in a Personal Best of 11.77 and Kayla Johnson of Immaculate Conception High was third in a Personal Best of 11.90. The field was rounded-out by Malayia Deanna Duncan of St. Jago in a Personal Best of 11.94. Briana Campbell of St. Jago High won the class 2 girl’s 100m timed final in 11.89, while Tiana Marshall of Wolmer’s Girls was second in a Season Best of 11.96 and Shemonique Hazle of Hydel High was third in a Season Best of 12.03.
